Honda Brake Pads and Rotors in Brockton

Mechanic Inspecting Brake Pads and Rotors

Honda brake pads and rotors are made to the highest standards, so you should expect dependable stopping power whenever you hit the brakes. That said, even the best parts will wear out eventually, and driving with worn brake pads or rotors will put the safety of yourself, your passengers, and your fellow road users in jeopardy – you’ll also risk major vehicle damage.

That’s why the service center here at Ocean Honda of Brockton will always be happy to maintain your braking system and make any replacements that are needed. To ensure you’re able to visit before worn pads and rotors become a serious issue, we’ve put together a quick guide covering:

  • Common Signs Your Brake Rotors Need Replacing

Common Signs Your Brake Pads Need Replacing

Brake pads are covered on one side with a friction material. The other side is connected to the brake calipers. When you press down the brake pedal, the calipers force the pads against the rotors, which is what slows your vehicle.

Honda brake pads should last around 50,000 miles and be checked and changed as part of your scheduled maintenance plan, but signs they need attention sooner include:

  • Squeaking or squealing sound when brakes are applied.
  • Illuminated brake light when brakes aren’t applied.
  • Metal-on-metal grinding sound when brakes are applied.
  • Brake pedal vibration when the brakes are applied.

You can also perform a visual inspection. If brake pads appear less than a ¼ inch thick, they almost certainly need replacing.

Common Signs Your Brake Rotors Need Replacing

The brake rotors are those large chunks of metal you can see attached to your wheel hubs just behind the hubcap. They’ll last anywhere from 30,000 to 70,000 miles, with common warning signs they require attention sooner including:

  • Metal-on-metal grinding sound when brakes are applied.
  • Steering wheel vibrations when the brakes are applied.
  • Surface cracks on the rotors.
